Next July, from 9 to 23, Africa Renaissance Time will be in Burundi for a first important mission. We are going to verify the real conditions of a difficult reconciliation’s process and the reconstruction’s perspectives of a country which is coming out from a long period of civil war. During the mission we are going to make many interviews to the actors involved in the economic, political and social reconstruction throughout Burundi. The results of these meetings will be presented during the seminar in Italy, next September, which is going to collect Italian institutional, social and economic actors interested in Burundi. |

Broom Valley: a prime example of cluster start-up in the fragile region of Calabria The project has pursued and achieved, following seven years of research and experiments, its main objective: the perfection of a process for extracting fibre from Spartium Junceum straws for use in the textile industry, in hi-tech products or components (sound engineering, green building, biomedicine etc.) and in the paper industry, thanks to the integration of enzymatic, opto-electronic and electro-chemical technologies. |

It was born from the previous project GANTT (2003), which was concerned with broom-based products and showed that the critical stage of full automation, on which sustainability of the project depended, concerned above all the retting and defibring phases and that delicate industrial research activities were needed which entailed a degree of risk with respect to the eventual project goals. |
